CRISIS MANAGEMENT: Lessons Learned from COVID-19

In the past three months the whole planet has been plunged into a stunned state of shock, observing the mighty COVID-19 epidemic sweeping over societies and individuals— well developed and developing, wealthy and poor alike. This powerful disease continues to spread, in many places cases are still on the rise, and nobody can predict how long we must wait before the situation subsides.

Amidst this intense situation, we have witnessed much good as well as the bad—in the generous and creative efforts to cope with and overcome challenges of the crisis—from around the globe. We hereby call for papers under the following subtopics:

In the spirit of promoting professional development and nurturing scholarly dialogue, we are pleased to announce two changes to our publication process, both of which are good news for all involved: (i) from the date of this announcement, we will charge no publication fee to authors, either in Thailand or overseas; (ii) starting from the year 2019 onward, we will be publishing 4 issues of ABAC JOURNAL per year during the months of March, June, September, and December.

As always, we welcome all potential authors to submit their manuscripts online.

You are welcome to send your research abstracts to AU International Conference in Business & Economics which will be held on March 13-15, 2019 under the theme “Sustainability, Business Opportunity, and Social Responsibility: An Asian Perspective”.

Important Dates

Deadline to submit full paper: February 22, 2019

All abstract and papers should be submitted to conference@msme.au.edu. The paper selection committee is chaired by Professor André Habisch, Ingolstadt School of Management, Catholic University of Eichstaett-Ingolstadt, Germany.

Papers that are accepted and presented at the conference will be considered for publication in a special issue of the ABAC Journal (SCOPUS), the International Journal of Organizational Innovation, (INSPEC and EBSCO), the ABAC ODI Journal Vision. Action. Outcome (TCI Tier 1 and ASEAN Citation Index), the AU Journal of Management (TCI Tier 1 and ASEAN Citation Index), Journal of Risk Management and Insurance (TCI Tier 1 and ASEAN Citation Index), or the Conference Proceeding.

Announcement - Scopus Indexing

ABAC JOURNAL has been accepted to be indexed in Scopus in February 20, 2018. At present, it is in the process of providing information to Scopus team. The actual indexation date of the published articles of the journal for Scopus inclusion will be effective once the articles appear in the Scopus database, which will be notified later.

We are pleased to announce that the ABAC JOURNAL has been accepted and included as part of the SCOPUS database since February 20, 2018. With this new status, we are even more committed to further strengthening the quality of papers to be published in our journal. We are grateful and will follow the constructive advice given to us by the Scopus subject chair.

Committed to international quality, from now onwards, we will plug in a system of initially checking all manuscript submissions to screen out poor quality papers and strictly tightening our double-blind peer review process thereafter.

Starting from June 2018, all entries are subject to an initial check (consistent with our aim & scope, structure, author guidelines, plagiarism, language checking) and will be notified within one month after the submission date online of acceptance or rejection before proceeding to the review process.

All authors are advised to read our newly revised Author Guidelines, the aim & scope of the Journal, and other pertinent information to familiarize yourself with the Journal’s character and purpose.

We highly appreciate your cooperation and are looking forward to receiving original work seeking publication in the ABAC JOURNAL.

A Note from the Editor

Dear Readers,

It is truly an honor and a memorable experience for the ABAC Journal to publish this special issue in conjunction with the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) in the month of April 2016. Please note that as we decided to wait for a DOI acquisition which was kindly processed by the NRCT, so here we are uploading this issue on our regular website in May. We do not, however, consider ourselves off schedule since this joint AU-NRTC special issue was already uploaded online on the NRCT website in April 2016 (see http://e-journal.nrct.go.th/ )

On this auspicious occasion, the ABAC Journal comes with a slight alteration form from our normal issues. As some readers might have noticed, one of the differences is the color of ABAC Journal front cover which is usually in red but now appears in orange. This is to uniformly signify the NRCT color coding of the business management theme of Social Science Asia journals by NRCT- joint publications.

Secondly, in the spirit of keeping the ABAC Journal in a similar format with other NRCT- affiliated journals, we have withheld a ‘Foreword’ from the editor as we normally have in our regular issues.

Besides the above mentioned small changes, this issue certainly contains interesting information awaiting your exploration.

My deep gratitude is extended to the NRCT, our special-issue advisory board, our editorial board, all the reviewers, and, most especially, the contributors. Dear Readers,

Before we realize it, it will be time to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, which essentially means it is about time to ask ourselves: what have we achieved this year? And, what’s next?

When we consider those questions in terms of the ABAC Journal, it is my pleasure to inform you of two pieces of good news. One is that the ABAC Journal is now approved by TCI (Thailand Citation Index) on the ASEAN Citation Index or ACI—which was our goal as I informed you in June. What does it mean to be on the ASEAN Citation Index one might ask? Briefly speaking, any journal in the ACI is recognized among all eleven ASEAN member countries. This is timely indeed and I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly invite entries from our neighboring countries. As the ASEAN Community is moving to a new phase of operation in December 2015, our journal can really shine if we are fortunate enough to be able to feature a few ASEAN related papers in the upcoming issues of the ABAC Journal!

Secondly, another piece of good news: the ABAC Journal has been selected by the NRCT – National Research Council of Thailand – to co-publish an issue of the NRCT’s newly launched international- standard social science journal called Social Science ASIA. As I previously informed you, we plan for a special issue in December 2015. This is it. Specifically, this special issue will be a co-sponsored issue by Assumption University’s ABAC Journal and the NRCT. All articles published in this issue will be automatically given a DOI- Digital Object Identifier— an identification system for intellectual property in the digital environment.

As such, we have adjusted our timeline for this special issue. Please be informed that:

The special issue, co-published by the NRCT and AU, titled SOCIAL SCIENCE ASIA, is to be published in January - March 2016. Please read our Call for Papers below.

Our regular issue will be posted online in December 2015 as previously scheduled.

ABAC JOURNAL is now listed in the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) database (2015). The ABAC Journal is one of 53 selected journals in the second batch (September 11, 2015) for the ACI database

Dear Readers,

It is my pleasure to inform you that ABAC Journal has been placed in the ‘Tier 1 Group’ as a result of TCI’s (Thai Journal Citation Index Centre) 3^rd round of evaluations, which was announced on May 31, 2015. Of all 626 academic journals submitted for evaluation, 124 of the social science journals were placed in Tier 1, 132 in Tier 2, and 15 in Tier 3. For more details, visit:

Two key criteria include an effective, strictly blind review process of at least two relevant experts per article to ensure the quality of the academic work published, and to maintain a strict schedule of publication.

We have found this a real challenge since prominent experts are always busy. And that is why we have decided to publish two issues per year instead of three beginning next year in 2016.

I wish to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank all reviewers in the past year from January 2014 until December 2014, without whose critical assistance this would not have been possible. Equally important, I would also like to thank all contributors for choosing the ABAC Journal. I wish to thank my assistant editor, Mr. Aung Kyi Win and my two supervising editors, Mr. Daniel W. Merillat, and Mr. San Shwe Baw, for their unfailing, professional assistance. Most importantly, I wish to thank Rev. Brother Dr. Bancha Saenghiran for his continued, unlimited, and insightful support.

With this TCI recognition, we are motivated to work even harder and set our target even higher, with a new focus on becoming a journal listed in the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI).
