Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the perceptual learning style of ethnic students learning the Burmese language in selected schools and compare the ethnic student’s achievement of learning the Burmese language according to their most preferred learning styles. This research was conducted in four selected schools in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region, Myanmar. Participants were ethnic students in grade11 who enrolled in the 2013 academic year. Instruments were Reid’s Perceptual Learning Styles Questionnaire and students’ demographic profiles. For the Burmese language achievement of grade 11 ethnic students’ test scores were used. Descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation), and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that the most preference learning style among the students is the tactile learning, followed by auditory, kinesthetic, and then individual and group learning style. However, none preferred visual learning style. Regarding the difference of their most preferred learning styles, there was no significant difference among grade 11 ethnic students’ achievement of learning Burmese language according to their most preferred learning styles.
