Abstract

Forest areas are important resources of developing countries. However, forest areas have continued to be destroyed and degraded resulting from the economic growth. Annually, forest areas in developing countries around 13 million hectare are destroyed and responsible for around 20% of annual global greenhouse gas emission. Therefore the UNFCCC parties have developed one mechanism called “the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in Developing Countries and Enhancement of Carbon Stocks: REDD-plus.” Although it has no legal binding at present, Thailand as a developingcountry and a party to UNFCCC should be prepared for the upcoming REDD-plus. To understand REDD-plus, this article presents about the development of REDD-plus from COP 11-COP 15 and contents of the REDD-plus draft which consist of a set of principles, means of implementation, measurement, reporting and verification of actions: MRV, measurement, reporting and verification of support, and institutional arrangements.
