การศึกษาเพื่ออธิบายปรากฏการณ์ทางด้านความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศนั้นจ าเป็นที่จะต้องอาศัยเครื่องมือสำคัญที่เรียกว่า “ทฤษฎีความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ” เพื่อนำไปสู่การสร้างชุดอธิบายที่เป็นระบบ โดยทฤษฎีความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศหนึ่งๆ ต่างมีฐานคติและคำอธิบายต่อเหตุการณ์ระหว่างประเทศแตกต่างกัน ขณะเดียวกันแต่ละทฤษฎีก็มีจุดแข็งและจุดอ่อนในตัวเอง การทำความเข้าใจในฐานคติและข้อจำกัดของแต่ละทฤษฎีจึงย่อมจะทำให้ผู้ศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศมีทางเลือกที่หลากหลายในการสร้างชุดคำอธิบายต่อปรากฏการณ์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ

Abstract
In order to systemically explain the phenomenon of international affairs, one needs to rely on the tool of so-called "International Relations Theory". Each IR theory, however, is based on different assumptions and different explanations, even for the same phenomenon. As a matter of fact, IR theories themselves both contain strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, understanding the basic assumptions and limitations of each theory will inevitably lead international relations investigators to have multiple options for creating a series of explanations for the phenomenon of international relations.
